We are a museum open all year round with a focus on the forest, forestry, Sami history and culture. Here the development of forestry work and technology is shown - from axe, saw and chainsaw to large forwarders and harvesters.
The exhibition Vuömien sámieh / Samer i skog (Sami in the forest) shows the importance of the forest - the home, the reindeer grazing, the food, the craft, the sould and the symbols.
Here you meet people who have had the forest as their workplace and living environment; the lumberjack, the cook, the log driver, the Sami, the goatherd, the machine operator...
In addition to forestry items, films and photographs, there are unique and large Sami collections and an interesting collection of insects in the museum's archives. In the children's play corner the focus is on learning through play and the desire to discover.
Skogs- och samemuseet is beautifully situated on a peninsula in Umeälven called Gammplatsen. It is Lycksele's place of origin, as evidenced by old house foundations and huts.
