Just a few minutes' walk from the centre of Skellefteå, right by the Skellefteå river, you will find Skellefteå museum. The museum is responsible for cultural and environmental care in Skellefteå, Norsjö and Malå and has county responsibility for technology and industrial history after the year 1900.

In the spring of 2022, Storsia opened on the top floor of Skellefteå museum. It is a local historical exhibition that leads the visitor through the history of Skellefteå, Norsjö and Malå. Through photos, objects and stories, you will learn more about the conditions under which people lived and worked - from the Ice Age until the year 2020.

Downstairs from Storsia is the children's favorite corner of the museum - Barnsia. It is a local historical play and learning environment for children 0-6 years old. Here the children get to explore our local history with animal husbandry, agriculture and the vital extraction from forests and mines - through play. The museum's temporary exhibitions are found on the same floor as Barnsia.
Both Storsia and Barnsia are permanent features at Skellefteå museum and will be available for several years to come.

In the park that surrounds the main building you find the outdoor area Nordanå with a playground, country store and a number of historic buildings. In summer, Kågegården - a couple's cottage from the late 18th century - is open and the Trästock Festival in July is a recurring event. In winter, a Christmas market is arranged at Nordanå.
